Hi everyone! One year ago “Shawn Mendes The Tour Asia”! Shawn finally came to Indonesia in 2019. For those of you who don’t know Shawn Mendes, he’s a Canadian singer and songwriter. He learned guitar at the age of 14 and posted songs cover on vine.
Artist manager Andrew Gertler discovered Shawn and brought him signed up for a record label (shout out to Andrew). He also opened for Taylor Swift 1989 World Tour. So cool!
Back when I listened to one of his songs “Life of the Party” for the first time, it has good meaning. It’s about being yourself, it’s ok to be different and love who you are. His songs reached top Billboard’s chart and he won awards which is amazing. He’s young, talented, and the most important thing about him is he shows us to always stay positive.
I was so happy to know the tour announcement. I remember me and my friends were very excited to this one. Finally I got the ticket, and couldn’t wait to see him. It was 8th October 2019, the concert held in Sentul International Convention Center (SICC), Bogor. It’s not in Jakarta, so me and my friends decided to stay in a homestay not too far from the venue.
Bogor is well known as “Kota Hujan”, means it’s often raining in the city and yes that day was raining. We left for the concert around 6 PM by an online taxi, and 30 minutes later we arrived at SICC. We ran from parking area to the gate and it was very crowded, people seemed very excited.
We’re allowed to get into the venue 15 minutes before it started, around 8.24 PM Shawn came on stage and opened his set with a song called “Lost in Japan”. The crowd were screaming and I just couldn’t control myself lol. Then it followed with “There’s nothing holding me back”, “Nervous” and “Stitches”. He also did medley of few songs from all of his albums.
Shawn came to B stage to sing acoustic songs. The crowd sang back to the songs which was incredible. I can say the energy he has on stage was unreal and he always smiling to the crowd.
He told us how much his fans mean to him, and grateful to be on stage perfoming to thousands of people. Shawn also said that he has a friend from Indonesia, and told him that he came here but unfortunately his friend was not in Indonesia at that time.
Back to main stage, he performed “Treat you better”, oh yes I sang my heart out to this one. Honestly we sang back to every single song and that’s exactly what we did.
I remember when he performed “Youth”, he said we have power to change the world for the better (couldn’t agree more). Shawn perfomed 20 songs if I’m not mistaken, and ended his set with “In My Blood”, and the crowd was screaming out loud.
It was one of the best time of my life, I waited for years and finally saw him live. His vocal, set, interaction with the crowd, and the stage were incredible. What an amazing night! Thank you so much Shawn for the incredible performance, also to his band, concert promoter and all who put their hearts into this tour. It was such a magical moment.
